Our IndieGoGo campaign is officially DONE!!!! Thanks to your generous contributions, we’re able to:
- fund our website hosting space for several more years
- attend conferences and make the occasional visit to out-of-state libraries
- provide seed money for a storefront to fund Project initiatives and administrative work
- cover expenses for some awesome new projects we have coming down the pike
We’re so relieved to return our energies to what we love doing – connecting with you and bringing you awesome features. Like these!

Animal Farm by George Orwell. Trading card artist: Barry Fitzgerald.
New this week on the site:
- The Banned Book Trading Cards from Lawrence Public Library have been a smash everywhere – our feature was even picked up by the American Libraries weekly newsletter!
- Art books covertly placed into a library collection is the motive for The Library Project. Talk about subversion in the stacks!
- Don’t miss the next piece by Anja Notanja Seiger, Everyone is a Library of Experience!
- Ann Behrens, costumer for the Eau Claire Children’s Theatre, shared her process of creating children’s book characters for the stage.
- We’re happy to highlight the National Endowment for the Arts’ Big Read grant – consider applying!
Neat stuff from the social media world:
- We love tinylibrarian on Twitter, so we were pretty excited with her “Connect, Create, Collaborate” feature on YALSA’s blog – “Sparking the Maker Movement at your Library“. Not to be missed!
- So much Tolkien love this week with the release of The Hobbit. Two favorites: AWESOME book display at a bookstore and this mind-blowing chronicle of painting (yes, PAINTING) a giant movie poster. (Oops, don’t want to forget this super-helpful chart for telling the 13 dwarves apart.)
Neat stuff from around the web:
- These book sculptures are vignettes from classic literature – more book sculpture is ALWAYS best!
- The Folger Shakespeare Library launches a digital collection! Literature and theater nerds everywhere rejoice!
- “the event of a thread” installation brings giant swings into the Park Avenue Armory in NY. Looks like so much fun!!!
- A Christmas tree made from 5,000 donated ceramic cups and plates in Belgium went gangbusters this week! via Colossol
- Eeeeeee! Adorable card catalog stop-motion animation from Yale!
I hope you all have a wonderful week ahead of you! I am finishing up my semester as we speak, so I have many plans brewing for the holiday season. Also, I lose my “intern” status here at LaIP and move to a new team member status! Woohoo! Until next week, I hope that life brings you many joys and much love.
