It is one of the last truly social resources left that anyone uses.”- Portsmouth Public Library invited artists to curate displays on the books that inspired them – could this work at your library?
- Loesja Vigour brings us a unique insight, the view from a prison library, where inspiration can flourish quickly.

- We check back in with The Labs @ Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, where this digital makerspace turned the library into a recording studio– complete with sample tracks recorded by teens!
News from the social media neighborhood:
-
The big news on Monday was from ALA Midwinter’s Youth Media Awards. Among the many winners & honors, we’re especially pleased to hear Jon Klassen’s This is Not My Hat received the 75th annual Caldecott Medal. Do pick this book when you get the chance – the dual storytelling between the text and illustrations is really wonderful!
- Speaking of children’s lit, we’ve been exploring the International Children’s Digital Library. It’s a wonderful resource for non-native English speaking families!
- Blogger Librarian by Day shares “The Danger of Using Creative Commons Photos in Presentations” – definitely worth a read.
- This week marks the 200th anniversary of Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice. The New Yorker has a great little piece, or if you’re looking for something a bit more fun, try The Lizzie Bennet Diaries on YouTube (I’m hopelessly addicted to this channel).
New from around the web:
- Oh, to be a bird flying above the tulip fields of the Netherlands – for the rest of us, photographer Normann Szkop shows us the view!
- Lots of people loved these Doctor Who valentines. You are, indeed, our people.
- February isn’t just about Valentine’s Day; it’s also African American History Month! These 28 graphic novel titles are a great way to celebrate.
- “I don’t want to live in a large apartment – I want to live in a small library!” Doesn’t everybody?
- These have had me cracking up all week: Ireland’s creative community got together to design posters of their “worst feedback” from clients. Here are JUST A FEW of these gems:
What new ventures, projects, or ideas will you be chasing this month? We’d love to hear! Connect with us in the comments, via e-mail, or on Twitter & Facebook. Have a great, inspiring week!
