Here on the Library as Incubator website, we talk a lot about how libraries can support the arts. But what about the ways art (and artists) can directly support the library? Read about Madison Public Library’s first ever City Employee Art Show and Silent Auction here, and see how the city of Madison Women’s Issues Committee, the Madison Public Library Foundation, and MPL’s Central branch created an exhibit that gives back — to the community and to the library. -Christina

This is fascinating research and I wish I could have stayed at WLA for your presentation. I’m just finishing up research on the other side of the issue–how public library art programs affect the people who attend them. Specifically teens and specifically in light of civic engagement. It’s a great thing to be looking at. I love your metaphor of incubator. It’s funny, I’ve been considering SLIS for my doctoral program, and this just pushed me over the edge into really wanting to be in Madison!

Shannon, thanks so much for your kind words and the encouragement – your research sounds so interesting (please consider submitting a piece on it!). And let us know if you do end up in Madison – we’d love to connect with you!
